A Simple Question With a Few Parts
Most homeowners who call us about hardwood are not sure how to start. Do you need to know the exact product? Should you have measurements ready? Do you need to decide between a new floor and refinishing before you pick up the phone? The honest answer is no. You do not need a finished plan to ask about a project. You need to be able to tell us a little about the room and the floor you have now, and we will take it from there.
This is the question we hear most often, so here is how it works from our side.
What to Tell Us When You Reach Out
When you call (256) 520-8048 or send a message from our contact page, three details help us the most:
- The room or rooms. Tell us whether it is a single bedroom, a hallway, a kitchen and dining area, or most of the main floor.
- The floor you have now. Is it original hardwood that has gone dull, bare subfloor, carpet you want to replace, or another kind of flooring? Photos are welcome if you have them.
- Roughly when you would like the work done. A rough window is enough. If you are hoping to finish before a family event or a move, say so and we will talk through what is realistic.
That is all we need to begin the conversation. We will get back to you about a quote.
Which Service Fits Your Situation
Part of the first conversation is working out which of our three services matches what you actually want. Here is how we usually think about it.
Your floor is hardwood but looks tired
If the boards are sound and it is the finish or color that has worn out, hardwood floor refinishing may be the right path. We have spent 35 years doing custom refinishing, and our craftsman is Bona certified. Refinishing takes the floor back to fresh wood and brings it back with a new finish, and a new stain color if you want one.
You are putting in a new floor
If you are replacing a floor, finishing a new space or starting from bare subfloor, our hardwood floor installation service covers laying new hardwood and finishing it so the floor reads as one piece.
You want a floor that arrives finished
Some projects suit flooring that comes with its finish already on. Our prefinished flooring installation is built around that approach. If you are unsure whether site-finished or prefinished is better for your room, ask us. That is a perfectly good thing to raise on the first call.
What Happens After You Contact Us
Once we have heard about your room, your current floor and your timing, we will get back to you about a quote. We would rather ask a few extra questions up front than guess, because a floor is something you live on every day. If it helps you decide, you can look through our hardwood floor photos to see the kind of work we do and describe what you like when we talk.
Common Worries, Answered Plainly
Not sure of the right terms?
That is fine. Describe what you see, such as dull patches, scratches, dark spots or gaps, and we will translate it into the work involved.
Undecided between refinishing and replacing?
You do not have to. Tell us what the floor looks like and what you would like it to become, and we can help you weigh the options.
Not sure we work in your area?
We serve Huntsville, Madison, Decatur, Athens, Hartselle, Scottsboro, Guntersville and Florence across North Alabama. Call and tell us where you are and we will confirm we can get to you. You can also read about our work in Huntsville and Madison.
